LGBT Community Organizing
While diverse Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Characteristic is still stigmatized, having a community helps us to be resilient. Therefore, LGBTIQ community organizing is the backbone of RoCK. Organizing aims to break down isolation, empower individual and group, and strengthen solidarity in the community.
RoCK’s priority focus is reaching out to LGBT+ people in remote areas who have limited access to information and networks with other LGBT+ groups, while having other gathering activities to connect to groups in urban and peri-urban areas. This work involves regular field trips, complemented by phone and social media communication, cultural events, and online social networking when possible.
Field Visit and Home stay
RoCK uses field visits and homestays to build on human relationships and connections between different generations, locations, and identities. These activities nurture the culture of sharing food, homes, and stories. It is a way for RoCKers to empathize with each other and share coping strategies based on their own experiences.

Active Members Quarterly Gathering
Empowerment means not just learning, but keeping each other motivated. Active member quarterly meetings allow our active members and staff to support each other emotionally and physically. At these gatherings, RoCKers share updates on their situation and learn new topics relevant to common advocacy goals, for example: Cambodian law, Human Rights instruments, and membership consultation.
Cultural Event
The common stereotype about being LGBTIQ in Cambodia is that it’s against nature and culture, and that we are abnormal.
RoCK hopes to dispel these misunderstandings by reversing negative mindsets into positive ones. We bring our visibility to the local level using Cambodian cultural and religious approaches to change people’s minds about the LGBTIQ community. At the same time, it strengthens our member relationships and solidarity, as we come from different regions and join hands to increase sensitization in our friends’ neighborhoods.
